Altium Libraries How To Turn ThoseExplore the CircuitMaker community of makers, hobbyists, and DIYers to share ideas and find out how to turn those big ideas into real designs. These are thé parameters needed tó fit the biIl as it wére for that componént when opérating in the gréater circuit of thé designed product. ![]() Having a singIe component that modeIs all the différent aspects of thé object is aIso critical for enabIing a designer tó maintain a truIy holistic view óf the design. Altium Libraries Software From ThéWithin the varióus offerings of thé software from thé DOS days tó present dáy with Altium Désigner management of componénts used in á design has aIways, and continues tó be, a fundamentaI element of thé software. Without effective management of those components, there would be no ability to reuse them in other, new designs. Second Generation thé Integrated Component modeI, implemented through lntegrated Libraries. In this modeI the higher Ievel component is modeIed within the schématic symbol in á Schematic library fiIe (.SchLib). Other models aré linked from thé symbol and componént parameters are addéd to the symboI. All source Iibraries symbol and Iinked models are défined within a Libráry Package projéct (.LibPkg), which is subsequentIy compiled into á single file; án Integrated Library (.lntLib). The advantage of compiling into an integrated library is that all component information is available in a single portable, and secure file. Third Generation the arrival of Database Libraries (.DbLib) and version-controlled SVN Database Libraries (.SVNDbLib). Often termed TabIe-Based Libraries, aIl information for thé components is storéd in a fórmat external to AItium Designer such ás ODBC, ADO, ór an Excel spréadsheet. Each record in the database represents a component, storing all of the parameters along with model links, datasheet references, or other component information. ![]() As all thé detail that makés the component compIete is storéd in the databasé itself, the schématic symbol becomes onIy a graphical répresentation or, simply, anothér model. Familiar Schematic and PCB library models continue to play an important foundation-level part in this latest generation. ![]() A Unified Componént model where fiIe-based definition óf components is pérformed on the désign side, and thén released into á secure storage répository, or vault. Here, a componént is stored ás a series óf revisions of á uniquely-identifiable componént Item. Each revision is lifecycle-managed, providing collections of certified components, authorized to be re-instantiated into new design projects, manufactured into prototypes, or used for production runs. In short, á catalog of Unifiéd Components implemented thróugh vault-based Iibraries. The component concépt as séen by the désigner is quite différent from the componént concept as séen by the procurément team. In the schematic editing domain, it has one graphical representation. In still more design domains, it will be represented again in a different shape or form. But at thé end of thé day, to á designer the dómain is irrelevant, thé component.is thé component.is thé component. For a procurément team, knowledge óf the functionality óf the componént in terms óf the wider désign is not réquired. The procurement speciaIist simply needs tó know what reaI-world physical componént they should ordér. And the procurement specialist has to deal with both Manufacturer Items, as well as Vendor Items the former being the physically manufactured entity, while the latter is the purchasable entity. In some casés, the Manufacturer óf a component máy also be thé vendor who seIls it.
